Salvador Dalí was a Spanish surrealist artist known for his striking and bizarre images, often featuring distorted or dreamlike landscapes and figures. He was born in Figueres, Catalonia, Spain, and showed an early interest in art, studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Madrid.
In the 1920s, he ...joined the Surrealist movement, which was centered in Paris, France, and became known for his striking and unconventional works, such as 'The Persistence of Memory' , which features melting clocks. His work often explored the depths of the subconscious mind, and he was deeply influenced by Freudian psychoanalytic theory.
Dalí was also known for his eccentric personality and flamboyant public appearances. He collaborated with a number of other artists, including filmmaker Luis Buñuel, and designed sets and costumes for ballets and operas.
Later in life, he returned to his hometown of Figueres, where he established the Dalí Theatre-Museum, which houses a large collection of his work. He continued to create art until his death in 1989. (more)
