Pablo Picasso, the famed Spanish painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist, stage designer, poet and playwright was born on October 25, 1881. His art redefined the whole scene during the 20th century. He is known to have invented collage, and contributed to surrealism and modern sculpture.Oct 24, 2017 The painting was first bought by John Hay Whitney in 1950 for US$30,000. On May 5, 2004 the painting was sold for US$104,168,000 at Sotheby's auction in New York City. Sotheby's did not name the buyer though sources say that it was Guido Barilla, owner of the Barilla Group. Who bought Boy with the Pipe Picasso? Sotheby's did not say who bought “Boy with a Pipe.” A 24-year-old Picasso painted “Boy with a Pipe” soon after settling in Montmartre, France. It depicts a young Parisian boy holding a pipe in his left hand and wearing a garland of flowers. John Hay and Betsey Whitney bought the painting in 1950 for $30,000.May 5, 2004
