Italy: In 1948, Dali visited Italy, where he was inspired by the work of the Renaissance artists, particularly Raphael. Spain: Dali frequently traveled around his home country of Spain throughout his life. He spent time in Barcelona, where he was born, as well as in the small fishing village of Portlligat, where he had a house and studio. North Africa: Dali visited North Africa in the 1950s, where he was inspired by the colors and textures of the desert landscapes.
